Hello all. It’s Manny Faces, founding director of The Center for Hip-Hop Advocacy.
It’s been a long time… I shouldn’t have left you… Without a weekly newsletter of interesting hip-hop related things to click through…
My apologies. I had to prepare for, travel to and deliver lectures at two separate hip-hop conferences. Shouts to The Trinity International Hip-Hop Festival at Trinity College in Hartford, CT and the Circling The Elements Hip-Hop Conference at Albany State University in Albany, Ga. It is always encouraging to see so many academics, scholars and students passionate about hip-hop in a way that encourages growth and understanding of the culture.
And that’s exactly what we’re working on at The Center for Hip-Hop Advocacy; to spread awareness and understanding about hip-hop in an intelligent, balanced way with an independent voice.
As we’ve seen with the troubling situation involving Afrika Bambaataa and the… less than optimal way it is being handled by those involved, those affiliated with those involved, those covering (or not covering)the issue and the reactions by those discussing the issue, this sort of work is perhaps needed now more than ever.
So, back to work. In the meantime, we’re always looking for good people to help us build our organization: journalists, fundraising specialists, event planners, program managers, video content creators and more. Many positions are volunteer, but some are not, so if any of this interests you, let’s talk.
You can also make a tax-deductible donation to our organization here. For the next 10 days, we will donate 15% of any donation we receive to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN).
So now, here are this week’s picks. Thanks again for your interest and support.
